Winter dreaming with Hunter Boots

 March is my favourite time of year. The abundance of bright foil-wrapped chocolate goodies may have something to do with it. Well they certainly add to the joy of Autumn anyway. But I love March because I love Winter so much. I love the beautiful layers of clothing in rich colours and textures. I love being cold and I love winter food and red wine. March is when my mind shifts in the direction of colder temperatures. Fashion also switches it's focus in the same way. Store fronts are changing, and rails are filling with cosy knits and beautiful coats. Then there are the boots.....oh the beautiful boots.
I am addicted. I need them all. I need more than that. I love boots in every length and heel.

So when I got hold of a peek at Hunter's Autumn/Winter range, I needed to share it with you quickly. I have two pairs in my collection and they have been well worth the investment. I have had four happy years with them and they haven't dated, faded or damaged even slightly. They have been walking, puddle stomping and even bird watching through swampy sanctuaries. They are a saviour for morning walks with a hound who is particularly fond of mud and dirt. I am so grateful that Cape Town enjoys a decent winter. It is never unbearably freezing, but we'll get just enough rain, frost and even snow to warrant a pair or two of wellies.

Here are my favourites from the latest range, which includes all the staples, as well as a few pretty pastels, a gorgeous deep wine red and a two-tone pair that I think would make any festival outfit complete. Being a total short shit, I am now eyeing the mid-calf ones. I love my tall pairs, but they do cover my knee instead of sit below it like they do on every model/fashion blogger with legs for days. So I've accepted my height and fate and will try out a shorter pair this season.

Rainy Day Essentials

It is finally winter and it is my favorite time of year in terms of fashion.  Rainy day gear always makes me smile. I just want to pop on some wellies, go splash in puddles, and then go find somewhere with a roaring fireplace and a vase-sized glass of red wine.

All fur Everything

This winter every girl needs a faux fur gilet.

(faux fur kids, please for the love of puppies, stick to faux fur!) 

They teased us a little last winter, and this year they are in the picture big time. Initially I thought finding one that didn’t look cheap and nasty would mean spending a fair amount, but our local retailers have proved me wrong. And our Aussie imports haven’t done too bad either. Here are some that I’ve found, for every budget. I have also found faux fur jackets, scarves and the cutest accessories that I love for a luxe looking, but cosy winter ensemble.

New In | Poetry A/W2015

I told you last week that I'd been to see the winter collection preview for both Old Khaki and Poetry stores. If you didn't see that range, go have a look here.

Today I've got some of my favourite pieces from Poetry's collection to show you. Poetry is aimed at a slightly older woman in my opinion, but I never discount them completely because they always have something delightfully pretty and feminine, or they manage to make a very practical jacket or shirt look very delicate. They also know how to do a cosy cable knit jersey like no one else.

Everything I loved from the collection is all neutral hues and monochrome, with a spot of animal print and stripes for good measure (obviously).
The range is already starting to trickle into stores, so go and have a look for yourself.

Winter 2015 | Old Khaki

I know that yesterday I had you thinking about Autumn and you were probably rolling your eyes at me.
On the hottest day in recent history. I know, I know.

But I love Winter, and I won't be dissuaded. So to carry on with that train of thought, I have some more to add to your shopping list. Yes, I am an enabler. But the change of season is so exciting and I have just left the Old Khaki Autumn/Winter '15 collection preview and it is fantastic and I just needed to share it with you. Each year I stock up on their basics like their chambray shirts, cotton vests and casual knits. I also keep promising myself that I'll splurge on their buttery soft leather biker jacket. I am still upset I didn't get the navy blue one last year - so the old saying goes, nothing haunts you like the things you didn't buy...

Here is a tiny preview of some of my favourites from the new season's range. All items will be dropping in stores between this month and June. So keep popping in to see whats new.

Love all of it, and the items that are definitely coming home with me (leather jacket remains on the wish list) are the black pencil skirt, tassel knitted snood, and that adorable beanie with the faux fur pompom.

Poetry Winter 2014

I know it is still summer and it truly hurts to start thinking about your winter wardrobe already. But alas, fashion waits for no one and you may as well start slowly adding to your winter wardrobe and ease into the change of season slowly.

I was lucky enough to crack a nod to the launch of the Poetry Winter launch earlier this week to get a peak at what we can expect for the coming season. I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised to see that Poetry has upped their game and are featuring pieces that are more on-trend than they usually do. Think plenty of denim, quilting, winter florals and perfect winter coats.

For now I just want to show you a few items from the collection that I think make for the perfect basics of a stunning winter wardrobe. All of these pretty things will be in stores from April.
