Girly Gifting

I don't mean to cause a mild panic, but it is time to start thinking about Christmas and the silly season in general. I have been cursed so very blessed to also have quite a few friends' birthdays in December - as well as my husband and me! Joyous indeed! So I am already in a gifting flat-spin.

Rubybox to the rescue! They have already started stocking amazing gift sets, and at really great prices. Which girl doesn't love trying a new palette, or scoring a whole set of pretty lip-glosses? No. Exactly.
Its like fishing in a barrel. So save yourself some stress and panic and start shopping now.

The weekend in Instagram

It was a brilliant weekend. We kicked it off with the Colour Me Crazy run on Saturday morning which was so much fun. Thanks so much for the tickets Karisa!
I ran in a balaclava hoping to avoid colourful hair and the powder getting into my fragile lungs, but sadly, the hair didn't quite make it and I am still sporting green streaks. Colour runs are not kind to blonde hair. The run wasn't too easy, with most of it being on sandy terrain, so we were filthy by the end, but the abundance of great music, deloish food trucks and bucket loads of drinks options made it better. We didn't get to stay until the late evening as we had rugby tickets so we dashed home in the late afternoon and desperately scrubbed away until we looked somewhat presentable.

The Sharks won, much to the dismay of pretty much everyone I know except my family. I made a ridiculous shark fin for my head which also didn't score me too many popularity points.

On Sunday I made amends with the depressed WP supporting husband by making him banana muffins for breakfast and a yummy steak dinner. So I think we're good now and I am forgiven for being a horrible Sharks supporting wife.
It was a cracker of a day in Cape Town so we went for a walk along the seaside and plonked our towels down at the beach outside our apartment to soak up some sun. When we were suitably toasted, we spent the rest of Sunday as one should, afternoon napping. The sunset was a gorgeous one, so much so that my entire Instagram feed was pink sunset from every corner of the city. We do live in a pretty damn gorgeous part of the world!

Have a wonderful week kids!
xx

The weekend in Instagram

I only have 4 pictures from the weekend because it revolved entirely around Impi Challenge and there was no place in the dirt for a camera or phone. Friday night was spent carbo-loading and getting outfits ready, and then Sunday was spent limping around the house tending to bruises and stiff muscles - all of which were entirely worth it!

Impi Challenge, for those of you who don't know, is an annual adventure race. It is a 12km trail run through forest, vineyards and farm land, and if that isn't challenging enough, they throw in about 17 obstacles along the way. The obstacles have names like Snake Hill, Vietnam Crawl, Leap of Faith, Snake Pit and Vertigo Wall. Its not for wussies.

19 of us entered as a team this year and it was my favorite Impi Challenge so far. Having your closest friends help you and cheer you on throughout the morning made it so much more fun. We all shared in each others' laughs, tears and little achievements along the way. Some of us hate heights, others have claustrophobia and some are fitter than others. But together we overcame it all and finished strong. As the saying goes, it always seems impossible - until its done. I am delighted with the sense of achievement and each year I am more and more wowed by what my body and mind are capable of. I am so proud and so in love with my friends today. You girls and guys are all machines and individual miracles and should be so proud too. (Once the bruises fade and our legs start functioning again, lets start planning next year!)

The weekend in Instagram

This weekend was one of those breaks that totally relaxes you and soothes your soul. It was exactly what we needed to recharge and reconnect before facing the madness that is the last quarter of 2013.
We went with our family, and the best bit about doing a vacation with family is that there is no pressure to do anything, plan anything or be anything. You just get to leave your make-up at home, pack in your comfiest clothes and completely chill out and enjoy the precious time connecting with those most important to you.

We rented a lovely house just outside Shelley Point, and right on the beach. We spent the weekend taking long, leisurely walks along the beach, reading books, listening to music and congregating around the fire each night to braai, but most importantly, to make s'mores. Dave and I brought back some jumbo marshmallows from America and we have been dying to use them - and this was the perfect opportunity. These monsters more than covered a marie biscuit so it was a very messy exercise, with gooey melted marshmallow spilling everywhere. But although we had very sticky fingers, we had very happy bellies.

Our blissful breakaway was rounded off with a slow cruise through to Paternoster where we got lucky with a booking at The Noisy Oyster and gorged on the hugest plates full of West Coast mussels, fresh sushi, warm bread and plenty of crisp white wine.

I love you very much my favorite people in the whole world. This post is just for you. xx

The weekend in Instagram

This weekend was spent with my girlfriends at 5 Mountains Lodge and Spa. We all put money away each month and save up for an annual getaway to be filled with spoils, spa treatments and plenty of wine!

We kicked off the weekend with gorgeous foot treatments and a heavenly body scrub, a delicious lunch and a ton of Angelfoods fudge.
After a little bit too much of the vino, we decided we needed snacks, and I came home with a giant bag of MSG. 2,5kg's and over a metre in height, and totally appropriate for a luxury spa retreat right?
Its pretty convenient being able to stand it up, congregate around it and enjoy the ensuing guts ache from all that artificially flavoured goodness.

Dinner, good music, great conversation and a ton of wine and bubbly set the tone for the annual Christmas gift exchange. Things got pretty ugly with all the stealing, but I came out with a voucher for a hand massage and mini mani at a local salon, so I'm not complaining. Last year I got properly shafted with the worst gift, so this year went a lot better. One fine day I will draw the elusive high number and rob a friend of her prized pressie!
(If you've never played Dirty Santa, the rules can be found here)

The next morning we were treated to a huuuuuuge breakfast and were able to relax around the pool area, after which we all went for our last treatments before heading home. Few things beat a hot stone massage. It was total bliss.
I highly recommend this spot for your next girls weekend. The service, location and facilities were so lovely and we'll definitely be going back soon!
