The Weekend in Instagram

This weekend was very laid back, with shopping of all kinds taking up most of my time. It's my darling mum's 60th birthday this week so we went hunting for the perfect gift for her, and saw the odd little something for me as well - of course. How sweet is the graphic long sleeve tee from Legit! (Top left)
Stationary shopping at Typo always ends up in a bag full of things I didn't go in there for. But everything is just so pretty!

My 1kg of Nomu Drinking Chocolate arrived. Of course the weather went against me so I'll have to wait a bit longer to break out the mini-marshmallows and bowl-sized mugs.

We tried a third pizza spot on our quest to find Cape Town's best pizza, and had a lovely dinner at Mitico. So far it is definitely 1) Massimo's, 2) Posticino and 3) Mitico. I am told Magica Roma in Pinelands has some amazing pizza, and we're off to Brenaissance on Wednesday so we'll see soon enough how they fare. We then enjoyed a stroll up Kloof Str and I definitely want to spend a Saturday doing some boutique-hopping. There are so many places I need to check out.

Finally on Sunday I enjoyed a fun day out with my family perusing the Decorex show and discovered some lovely little things for home, including the sweetest owl shaped vase. I also discovered the most divine cheeses and bought some amazing chili and garlic halloumi cheese to grill at home. We then went on a mini road trip to Hout Bay to enjoy a chilled afternoon at the Bay Harbour Market where I found some lovely fresh flowers and finally got to try Ma Mere's Hot Cross Bun Nougat which is ridiculously good.

Have a lovely week - its a great that we have a mid-week break on Wednesday ;)
Love a public holiday!

The weekend in Instagram

The weekend started a day early when we went to see Michael McIntyre on Thursday evening, and he is definitely one of the best comedians that I have seen live. Friday was spent visiting two dear friends in the hospital who both gave birth to gorgeous baby boys. Welcome to the group Tristan and Liam!
The rest of the weekend was laid back with some market hopping at the Old Biscuit Mill and The Palms and trawling Sir Lowry Road for some treasures for our home. We ended up finding some lovely frames, a print and then went a little nuts at Coricraft and ordered a french inspired bed-end for our room, and a coffee table and lamp to finish off our lounge. I love how our apartment is coming together. The highlight of my weekend has to be spotting this Bengal Cat and chatting to its owner for ages about how its the size of a cat, markings of a Bengal tiger and has the characteristics of a dog - as in you take it for walks, it'll swim, fetch etc. I am definitely going to investigate this and look at getting one in the future!
Sunday was spent with my parents who love popping in - more to hang out on the balcony and soak up the sun and sea air than visiting me I suspect... but they treated us to putt-putt and ice cream, so we felt that made up for it. My family knows to bribe me with sweets for just about anything.

That was all folks. I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Budget Beauty Buy: Foundation

So you spent most of your salary on these Trenery boots:

And then you're scraping the rest together to buy this Ted Baker bag at Stuttafords:

Sooooon. Soon you will be mine.

But then you ran out of foundation and are now doomed to spending the rest of the month indoors eating baked beans mashed up with unsuccessful Lotto tickets until payday makes you beautiful once again.

Fear not, because if you can live without a few latte's and add up the change lying around in your car you'll find that you can afford this wonder product: L'Oreal Infallible Foundation.

For all of R199,95 at Clicks, you get a great foundation, that does what it says it does. Long wearing, great coverage, yet lightweight. Currently I am between pills, so I am between the fading of some pigmentation and the beginnings of hormone induced breakouts and without makeup my skin looks like a moon crater. Can you tell I'm feeling sorry for myself?

I snapped this up the other day and I am so impressed I would go so far as to say I rank it up there with MAC, INGLOT and Smashbox and is now a firm favorite. It has great coverage, hasn't needed a re-application and hasn't aggravated my oily T-panel. I needed something that ticked all of these boxes due to current skin conditions and I really didn't think that I would find the cure at Clicks.
Yet, here it is. I HIGHLY recommend you give this a bash next time you're on the hunt for a budget-buy foundation.

The weekend in Instagram

It was a wonderful weekend full of good food, great friends and fun times. I finally got to try Madame Zingara, as well as Mezepoli in Camp's Bay (which is amazing by the way). We also met friends for Sunday brunch at Newport Deli where I got my fix of newborn baby smell while cuddling the crap out of Baby Blake. Topped off with two trips to the V&A Market, a little budget shoe shop and finally, taking it easy and admiring the great view from our home. All in all, total bliss.

20 Things about me...

I've been inspired to get a little bit more personal after seeing the video on my all-time favorite blog Cupcakes & Cashmere and a lovely post on one of the local blogs I love, Tails of a Mermaid.

My blog is essentially my own version of a diary yet I haven't yet used it to share very much of who I am. So to change that a little bit, here's 20 things about me:

1) I am THE biggest animal lover, but particularly a dog lover. I have rescued many dogs over the years and my poor parents are still bearing the brunt of this and I don't think they planned on having 3 dogs going into their 60's.  I often share my lunch with the stray dogs in the area that I work in too. I also ask random strangers on the promenade if I can pat their dogs. Sorry if that was you, I'm not a weirdo, promise!

2) I am a pathetically cheap date. The glory days of drinking the boys under the table have long gone and in their place is a twit with the giggles after 2 glasses of red.

3) I am scared of sheep. I have been convinced they are out to get me ever since I was 13 and my mom took me on a trip to the UK. We took a shortcut from our B&B to Stratford-upon-Avon across a field full of the devils and they ran at me.

4) Weirdly enough, sheep plush toys are my favorite type of fluffy toy. I have been gifted so many over the years and have over 25. Maybe its because I know they're stuffed and very much not alive.

5) I have no idea how to properly compile an Excel spreadsheet.

6) I really would love to live abroad for a while, either in NYC or the complete opposite, teaching English for a year or two in some beachy paradise like Thailand.

7) I still wish I'd gone to advertising school after finishing my BComm.

8) I never really had close girlfriends until I was in my mid-twenties. Then I had too many and learnt through a tough experience that it really is quality over quantity and have culled somewhat. I now find myself truly blessed with a wonderful group of inspiring women I call friends.

9) I often burst into tears after a conversation with an elderly person. In my previous job I would see clients on behalf of their brokers and a few were in their twilight years and had so much advice and wonderful tales to impart - yet hadn't seen their children in nearly 10 years. I could never leave my parents, or anyone in my family to die alone. I also cry when I see elderly couples holding hands. A life long marriage is a beautiful thing and to see a couple that have come through all that life throws at you, and still making eyes at each other chokes me up every time.

10) I am petrified of storms. I hate thunder and lightning. I am like a dog. I have literally be on you when a storm hits.

11) Not a huge surprise, but I have an unhealthy obsession with sweets. I have sweets everyday. If I could be hypnotized to never want to see anything sugar-laden again, I would do it. Just the other day I had a custard slice for breakfast at 7am and thought, "This is a problem".

12) I love English period drama. I have seen Pride and Prejudice too many times and will generally watch anything that has corsets, British accents and ladies in sitting rooms discussing potential suitors.

13) I turned 13 on Friday the 13th. I will be turning 30 on Friday the 13th this year. This is fact number 13....ooooooh.

14) I am pretty good at doing accents.

15) I learnt in the last couple of years that I am quite a good baker. So far favorites with friends have been my red velvet cupcakes, and lemon cupcakes with blueberry cream cheese frosting.

16) I love to bath. I don't understand "shower people". How can you not enjoy a tub filled with bubbles, fizzy bombs and all kinds of goodies to pamper your skin. Coupled with candles and a girly magazine. Bliss.

17) My greatest achievements have to be my two qualifications, completing Two Oceans Half Marathon and sticking with my marriage even though we were thrown such an ugly curveball. All of these things took guts, perseverance and the belief in a dream. All the hard work and tears paid off. Thats life.

18) My mother said she didn't get the broody thing until she was 29, and I was worried when half way through last year I wasn't feeling it at all. Then, like clockwork, I hit 29 and am now realising how much I eventually want a family of my own. A few more selfish holidays need to be taken first though!

19) I wish I had the ability to commit to a sport to the extent I competed properly, ie: being a great runner, triathlete, swimmer, iron man finisher. I just don't ever put in enough and I don't push myself.

20) I have big dreams for this blog, and a few very exciting things are already in the works for my little empire. My kids will be trust fund babies, just wait and see ;-)

Lush Cosmetics Must-have's

Lush Cosmetics in the V&A Waterfront has been draining my purse since it opened. You just get completely taken up in this gorgeous beauty delicatessen. All Lush products are natural, handmade and fresh and they are massively against animal testing and ensure their ingredients are not sourced from any company who is involved in animal testing.

Their products are innovative and fun, and smell soooooooo good. You end up touching and smelling, and then ultimately buying half the store. Its filled with towers of bubble bars, fizzing bath ballistics displayed like you're at a farmers market. They even have face masks freshly whipped up and displayed on ice!

So to help you out on your first excursion to Lush, I am going to give you my top products that I am head over heels in love with.

1) AMERICAN CREAM CONDITIONER: The most amazing conditioner you will ever use. Your hair feels the softest its ever felt and the smell is heavenly

2) GORILLA SOLID PERFUME: Anything vanilla sells me and I adore their solid perfume in Vanilla. Perfect to pop into your handbag

3) BUBBLE BARS: These are loads of fun - bubble bath compacted into a solid bar. You break off a chunk and put it under running water and you have the best smelling, fluffiest bubble bath!

4) THE BUFFY BAR: This is the one thing you have to leave with! It has a cult following and once you use it you will understand why. It exfoliates, moisturises and the smell is both soothing and leaves you dreaming of summer days on the beach.

5) SUGAR LIP SCRUBS: One of my absolute favorites is the Bubblegum lip scrub. Made with sugar and jojoba oil, you scrub away and lick of the rest and it tastes too yummy, you'll just want to scrub your lips all day to get your fix. Some days I have thought about just eating it straight out of the tub.

Get to Lush now and stock up! A lot of the good stuff has sold out already - but I got a tip from an insider saying that a new shipment is due this month, so I'll be first in queue to stock up for winter!

Check them out on:
