Beauty News - The BT-Cocktail

I went to a ladies brunch about 3 weeks ago and met the amazing team behind Bio-Therapeutic, a new skincare brand you'll be seeing everywhere very soon. We were shown the ropes and then I bravely and selflessly offered myself up to be a guinea pig and have a facial. I know, I'm a total hero. A free facial, someone's gotta do it.
The technology used was mind blowing. Gadgets, gizmos and LED technology turned back the clock right before my eyes and there was a 21 year old staring back at me when I checked myself out in the mirror after the facial. That facial is a whole post on its own, and I will be telling you more about it in the new year. What I will say is that I will be going for one monthly and mark my words, without needing Botox and fillers, I will stop aging at 30 using this technology alone!

What I want to tell you about today is the at-home skincare range, the BT-Cocktail. I was given a set to try out and it has become part of my night-time routine, combined with my regular face wash and night cream. I love that it isn't pushed on you as a replacement to your current routine. Nothing irks me more than when your facial therapist starts pushing products and trashing other products to make a sale. This is simply a complement to any existing routine you already have.

The science bit. Basically the BT-Cocktail is harnessing the most forard-thinking ingredients avilable to increase moisture retention and collagen production. Its also got some super effective anti oxidant called Ergothioneine which is key in the transport of fatty acids and ATP synthesis. ATP is, in a nutshell, the latest buzzword in skincare and anti-aging. ATP is referred to as the current of life or molecular currency and is literally the transfer of energy that makes life possible in every living organism. So the more we can kick this current up a gear, the prettier we look. Got it? Good!

After I wash and tone my face at night, I slap on Step 1, Energy. This lightens, brightens and stuffs my face with anti-oxidants. After letting that soak in I use Step 2, the Serum, which helps the night cream absorb, but also protects my skins natural supply of Vitamin E. I am 30 people, don't be messing with my Vitamin E supplies. Then I use my regular night cream, and follow up with Step 3, Cream which has all the good stuff that boosts collagen and evens skin tone.

So far, I have seen a dramatic improvement in skin tone, fading in pigmentation and my skin feels soft and moisturised. I suffer from dry skin and by 3pm my face usually looks tired - and since using this new 3-step system, I am looking fresh all day, my makeup lasts longer and stays on my skin better. I am convinced this is due to having a plumper, more moisturised canvas to stay on to.

At a recommended retail price of R1596 for the set, it isn't a cheap round. But if you're adding up what your current night time routine is costing you - I think you'll find you won't be far off. I personally feel that it is worth the investment. For even better results, they suggest using the system as a bootcamp for 30-45 days, twice daily. So you could see it as a quarterly investment in your skin. Whatever you feel works for you.

The weekend in Instagram

My 30th birthday weekend has been, by far, the best weekend of 2013. It started at 5am with a hike up Lion's Head - which has become a birthday tradition of sorts. Dave and I had a breakfast picnic and took in the views. I was spoilt beyond my wildest dreams by my amazing husband, as well as by my wonderful family and friends. I now own a pair of Loubies thanks to Dave, so I can check that off the bucket list at last! Red soles do one happy girl make!

We had a cocktail party to celebrate on Friday with our closest friends, and I had such a great time. I started out as a classy cocktail party hostess, but I ended the evening a little less so - as in running around in the parking lot attempting to hoola-hoop through the blow-up "0" from my "30" balloon. Hey, I had fun. A massive thank you goes out to the amazing staff at The Office where we hosted our little bash. We also had the memories captured by the lovely Thandi from MmmBetty Photography. I'll post those as soon as I can! My dress was from Good Clothing and of course, I wore my Louboutins (Mine are the Pigalles in Rouge Noir if anybody is interested).

Saturday was spent nursing a chronic hangover. I was in total denial about turning 30 until Saturday. Then I truly felt my age - and suffered a headache and general cloudiness for most of the day. Not even a Wimpy breakfast helped all that much. The rest of the day was spent hugging a pillow on the couch. Was it worth it? Yes it was!

Sunday saw me feeling cheerful again and we explored the pipe trail along Table Mountain with my brother and sister-in-law, followed by a scrumptious pancake brunch. That evening we decided we were desperate for pizza and were hoping to check out the new spot on Kloof Street, NY Slice Pizza, but its closed on Sundays! So we went to try another place thats been on our pizza hit list for a while, Woodlands Eatery. The service was slow, but the pizza was as good as the hype. I only wished we had space in our very full bellies to try the legendary chocolate fondant. Next time...

We used our extra day of weekend to hit the gym - atonement for the previous 3 days of bingeing. Not that it helped the cause much, as we spent the afternoon at Spice Route in Paarl and did a beer tasting, a chocolate tasting, snacked on biltong and eventually sat down for some more pizza and flammkuchen (for the second time this weekend, the food was good - but prepare for some of the slowest and disinterested service if you ever go to La Grapperia). After that, we went next door to Fairvew for some cheese tasting and stocking up for the holidays.

I turned 30 with such a happy heart, and the contentment of knowing that everything is as it should be. I have made my peace with the past, forgiven those who need forgiveness and am satisfied that I have moved onwards and upwards. All while being surrounded by the love of friends and family who encourage and inspire me everyday. I have a good feeling about my thirties, I think they'll be the glory years!

xx
Leigh
