Splurge vs Steal

Today's Splurge vs Steal is one of my favorite ones yet. After seeing the Jimmy Choo boots on yesterday's post on one of my favorite blogs, The Londoner , I fell deeply in love. They are the perfect moto boots to see you through this winter, and many more to come. One teeny, tiny, insignificant little detail though - I don't have the roughly R13 000 I'd need to acquire them.

Okay, so quite a significant detail then. But, as always, there are options for the rest of us folks without a trust fund and that option is from Mr Price. The pair on the right is from them and only R179,99. No seriously. For less than a round of drinks you can emulate Rosie's lovely style below. You can grab them online by clicking here or on the ad along the side panel. You're welcome.

My new beauty kit must-have

Image: Source
Oddly enough, when I got home to a little surprise from the ladies at Elizabeth Arden, I had been considering splurging on the YSL Touche Eclat - which is a whopping R445.

I am not opposed to spending money on something that has acquired cult status and will apparently change my life - but when this option from Elizabeth Arden landed on my doorstep, I decided to give it a few weeks of testing it out to see if it works as well. My only point of comparison is the time I tested out the YSL option at Sephora while in LA last year and I thought it was pretty good.
BUT….if I am honest, I think this new wonder-gadget from Elizabeth Arden does a better job. I am sure beauty eds all over the place want to string me up and throw rocks at me right now but its the truth.  I prefer the light to medium coverage, which builds nicely. It leaves me looking bright-eyed and refreshed and I am currently using it daily along with my Bourjois CC Cream and the combination makes for a healthy looking glow. What I love most is the correcting element which sorts out blemishes, fine lines, dark circles and shadows like a dream. I am all for a multipurpose wonder tool and for me, this does it.
It comes in a convenient and rather pretty little gold pen, and is perfect to pop into your handbag. It'll be a must for future travels and I definitely will never fly without one in my carry-on. I would definitely purchase this again when it runs out. And the best bit, at almost half the price of the YSL number, its only retailing for around R245.

You can find the Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Highlighting and Correcting Perfector (quite the mouthful, I know) at your nearest RedSquare, Foschini or any outlet stocking Elizabeth Arden products.

Life in Instagram

Wow, flu really hit me hard this year. The change of season normally brings on a bout of the dreaded lurgie, but I have really struggled to shake it this year. Hence my absence from the blog.

But we're back in the game and to fill you in on the weeks gone by, I'll start with bragging about a friend's new agency, Two AM - for all things creative strategy-wise, these are your people. We had a little roof wetting gathering at the offices last weekend, followed by dinner at Dias Tavern. Good food as always and a fun vibe, and plenty of interesting folks to stare at. And by interesting I mean freaks.

I also went to a high tea themed hen party where they served the most deloish marshmallow and turkish delight flavoured cupcakes. The flu had started taking hold by then so it was a brief distraction for my ailing bod. Sadly by the next day I was man-down and we had to cancel our wedding anniversary plans . We did eventually get around to having a glorious massage at Gingko at Winchester Mansions and sundowners and sushi at Koi.

With the blog viewership picking up - I've had a few product drops and been sent some lovely things. This is great in that I have tons to share with you - but I promise that even though something is free, it does not mean it will get a rave review. I am still 100% committed to telling you about things I love. If a product sucks, it won't be on Pretty Mint.
On top of blogger drops, I also won a few Twitter comps and received a gorgeous watch from Zuri and some goodies from Kangol are arriving this week. Online competitions are like my version of a gambling addiction - just with way better odds. ;-)

I also went darker - the photo above is filtered so it looks way darker than it actually is. It is a dark blonde, an attempt at copying Jennifer Aniston. Here's hoping the colour works as well on me as it does on her.

It has also been the week of the #nomakeupselfie which has been a great initiative to raise cancer awareness. However, merely taking a picture of yourself and slapping it on social media doesn't help. The UK had a dedicated hotline for the campaign, and sadly none of our charities caught on in time to make the most of this viral campaign. So I found one myself, inspired by a new friend who had lost her mom to cancer. You can SMS "PINKDRIVE" to 40158 and donate R20. You can find out more about this charity on www.pinkdrive.co.za .

Lastly, the time off gave me a chance to reflect on where the blog has come from and I think I have finally decided on where it will go. Viewership hit 100k in January and the end of this week will see us hit the 200k mark - thats double in 2 months! I cannot believe it and I am so excited. Thank you so much for reading Pretty Mint. I hope the planned changes and expansions will not disappoint.
But that is all future-talk - for now, have a wonderful week and enjoy the cooler weather. Its boots and layers season! Yay!

xx
Leigh

6 pairs of must-have Chic Kicks

Sneakers are everywhere for the coming season. From high-tops, to bright coloured trainers, to neutral colour Chuck Taylor styles - you need a pair or 3 for the coming Winter. So far I've invested in a pair of black high-tops, and not just any old pair, but the much-coveted Alexander McQueen Street Climb from the brand spanking new PUMA Select store. I am completely and utterly in love.

But one pair isn't going to cut it and I definitely want to inject some colour and fun into my winter wardrobe, and comfy and chick sneakers are the perfect was to do it. So here are some of my favorite of kicks:

1) New Balance trainers, R799 at Zando
2) Nike wedge sneakers, R1100 at Zando
3) Corina high-top sneaker, R849 at Country Road
4) Alexander McQueen for PUMA, R3000 at PUMA Select
5) Nike pink suede sneakers, R650 at Brands Online
6) Grey Melange sneakers, R199 at Woolworths (hello bargain!)
