Erato Neutrals

I couldn't resist sharing this release from Erato. I wanted to share it exactly as I received it because it is so pretty. I love the images for style inspiration, and I love Erato's options even more. The Thandi handbag and Christa pumps are perfection and are on my wish list.

Feast your eyeballs below...

New in: The Striped Tunic

With Spring/Summer ranges being showcased everywhere, and our own MBFW starting soon, I can't help but think about the next season and I am starting to look at a few transitional pieces to carry me from the last of Winter and into Spring.

I have a very strict rule about these transitional numbers. They have to be classics, and something I'll get a good few years of 'between season' wear out of. It just makes more sense to me to have go-to items for layering and a pulled together chic look, as well as to buy items that complement what I've accumulated over the Winter, but can also be slapped on with a pair of leather pumps and I'm out the door on a sunny Spring day.

The striped tunic is one such item that certainly adheres to this rule. It is classic, and gorgeous and flattering. It is perfect with stockings, rain boots and a trench, but it is as chic with ballet pumps or leather sandals.

My favourite find is this one at Poetry. At R499 its affordable, but being from Poetry, there is no compromise on quality, fit and fabric. It hides the Winter wobbly bits yet fits snugly enough to give you a long lean look. A serious winner indeed.

Christmas in July with Africology

I haven't had a giveaway in a while, so seeing as its that time of the year where we celebrate Christmas in July, I thought I'd spread some mid-year cheer.

If you haven't tried Africology products yet, may I ask why you've been living under a rock? Their Rose Absolute Tonic is one of my favourite toners and they have so many truly divine pamper products - all available at the click of a button on their online store
Today I'm sharing the love with their Chamomile Body Balm. You can add some to hot bath water for a soothing, nourishing bath. You can also add a chunk to an aromatherapy burner to fill up your roomwith the gorgeous and uplifting power of essential oils.

I use this at night as a body balm and it is wonderful for winter parched skin and it is grey for dry patches and cracked heels. Chamomile is actually a very powerful essential oil and can aid inflammation, insomnia and anxiety - so stress be gone!

Life via iPhone

I know I've been quiet on the blog. It has been a busy time - the day job involves planning a 2015 swimwear range, and also importing some amazing swimwear fabrics, so I have been so busy with adding these to our website that I have neglected you a little.

This week is a busy one, with a few events and potential signing up for a 3 week vegan challenge. I am excited to learn more about it and then I'll decide if I am up for the challenge. 3 weeks without meat doesn't bother me much - but I will miss my milk, eggs and cheese. Thankfully I've found vegan chocolate and cupcakes, so failing all else, I'll live off those for 3 weeks and become the tubbiest vegan you ever did see.

With all of that coming up, I am happy to have had the last 2 weekends to unwind and spend quality time with great friends. We tried foot massages and Mangwanani, coffee at Hard Pressed Cafe and have been indulging in cosy nights in watching movies. The mister also traded in the convertible for a utility vehicle - now before anyone jumps the gun and assumes we're spawning, we're not. We just have bicycles and wetsuits and an Ironman race coming up to accommodate. Well, he does, not me. I'm not crazy.

We also celebrated the bests 30th birthday at Alba Lounge this weekend. I haven't had a big night out in ages, so the photo above is one of the tamer ones - and I am ashamed to admit there were bathroom selfies. About 50 of them. Oh the horror....
Drunken behaviour aside, the Waterfront is such a magical place at night. I love how its lit up and partying the night away takes for wonderful memories.

Speaking of wonderful memories, we had some time to kill in-between appointments last week and took a walk past our wedding ceremony venue. Its a little hidden garden courtyard just off Greenmarket Square in the CBD. It was a chance discovery and we knew straight away that we wanted to get married in it. It was a perfect day and incredibly romantic.

Life via iPhone

The past week kicked off with a quiz night with some of my Twitter and blogger friends. I meeting some of my favourite internet friends in real life and then having the best time because I already knew they were fabulous humans. Our quiz team name was #BunnyClub and we didn't come last - and one of our best rounds was sport! No one believes me, especially my husband, but I swear it really was.

The rest of the week was spent primping and prepping for a long weekend in Durban for the Vodacom Durban July. I had the nails done in Gelish at Dante Wellness Spa and was suitably thrilled at the result. I am not the biggest fan of nail art so a feature nail is as bold as I get. I also got the perfect glow with a new product I'm trying out called Tan Organic. I'll tell you more about it later this week. Then I picked up a dress I could barely breathe in from YDE and was just about done.

Once in Durban, I set about making Dave fall in love with it - as I was born there and I still love it so much. So we did Oyster Box for tea, the beachfront, Umhlanga promenade, Moses Mabida Stadium, cocktails and dinner on Florida Road, Gateway shopping centre and of course, we filled up on curries, bunny chow and ice cream. (FYI - the subj a seed, vanilla bean and rose syrup milkshake at The Oyster Box is the best thing I have ever had. Promise me you'll have one when you go.)

My attempts at selling Durban were going so well, until nature stepped in. I hadn't quite prepped Dave for the abundance of monkeys that quite regularly drop in for a shopping spree in your fridge, or assume you'd ordered those macarons to share. Then there were the fairly large lizards the scuttle about the beachfront and promenade. Us Cape Town city slickers aren't used to much more than a fat rat or healthy sized roach....so this was an education.

Our day at the races was wonderful. We did pretty darn poorly on our bets, but we thoroughly loved the atmosphere in our Sibaya hospitality tent and we made the most of the endless food and drinks on offer. We had a big table of great friends and were very jolly by the time we left, despite our awful luck with the ponies.

On Sunday my aunt alerted us to the fact that we'd made the Sunday Tribune newspaper, so that was a cherry on top to a wonderful day out. A big thanks to Sun International and Sibaya Hotel and Casino for being the most amazing hosts.

Durban was great, and the races were fun - but my highlight has to be catching up with my family. My heart was happy and sad at the same time. Happy and delighted to see them, and yet sad because I realised I don't get to see them enough. I don't get to see them more than once a year, and yet once we are in the same room, we can yack for days and plough through tea or wine like nobody's business. Now to plot another trip as soon as I possibly can....

Trend on Trial: Dungarees

Yep, they're back. Dungarees have surfaced this winter and are sticking around right through to the coming summer. But be careful, because this time they are fitted, many sporting a skinny leg - so showing up in your 90's baggy pair won't score you any style points.

Being a little older, I am careful about what trends I'll try out. Partially because I don't want to look like I am trying too hard to cling to my early 20's, and partially because I don't want to waste money on something that barely makes a season and then it is dated and passé.
This is why I love Mr Price, as they make trying something new a lot easier on the pocket and if it doesn't work on you, or the trend fades faster that a Kardashian marriage, then you can dump it in the donate pile.

So I am trying out a pair of dungarees from tool ol' Mr P and so far so good. Their fit isn't bad at all, and even through I am between a size 32 and 34 right now thanks to my winter fat-coat, a size small is comfy and fitted in all the right places. I've paired them with my Converse sneakers and black leather ballet pumps so far - I don't think they'll be seeing heels on me, but that look may work for you. Less is more with these, so as to keep them simple and laid-back, but chic. So pair them with plain vests, anything grey, or a striped top.
They are wonderfully comfy and they'll definitely be my go-to outfit for chilled weekend brunches and for travelling in.

So our verdict for this trend on trial? We say go for it.
