#StyleBloggerStarter - Challenge Two: "The Review"

For our second #StyleBloggerStarter task, we have been challenged to review a new establishment. The catch is that it can't have opened more than 3 months ago.

Ever the wannabe overachiever, I have discovered a fashion haven that is yet to open. Yes, I am so hipster right now, I am delivering you a review before anybody else can.
Before it becomes too mainstream. *Slips on skinny jeans and ironically large glasses*

I could have done a review on a restaurant and it would have been easy enough - but shopping for pretty things is what this blog is mostly about. Its what my readers love, so its what I will deliver!
I give you The Shoestring Collective:

What:
The Shoestring Collective is a 'pop-up' shop and a fantastic collaborative offering of beautiful fashion, homeware and textiles, accessories and jewellery, art and stationery and even beauty products. The best bit is that its all made by top local designers.
I am talking jewellery by Famke, Oh Dear Megan and Bow Peep, and gorgeous clothing by Coppelia and Good Clothing.
Prices are mid-range to slightly pricey, but its worth it. You're getting unique, handmade and quality items instead of mass-produced retail. Think investment pieces.

When:
The Shoestring Collective opens to the public officially on Monday the 8th of July.
Trading hours will be:
Weekdays: 9am to 7pm
Saturdays: 9am to 5pm
Sundays and public holidays: 9am to 2pm

Where:
Gardens Centre, Cnr of Mill and Buitenkant Streets, Gardens, Cape Town.

The weekend in Instagram

The weekend started off with me manically compiling a blog post on my Glamour Style Blogger Starter challenge. I was very happy when I was done. It's been a long time since I've had a project and a deadline to deal with. Although I didn't win the challenge, I did enjoy it and I learnt a few things about style blogging along the way. I am very excited/nervous to see what this week's challenge is!

I then had the joy and privilege of going to MINI to get quotes on a new indicator thanks so some wally at the Waterfront who clearly is unable to get out of their car without opening their door into others. You are a tool and must be the size of bus that you need that much space to maneuver yourself.
That being said, I can't complain about the service and delish coffee at MINI. It's not the worst place ot spend an afternoon. So many shiny new cars to look at while you wait. I already have the next ride picked out. hehe

Saturday started off well with a great workout, followed by brunch at home where we made some healthy banana pancakes. Carb-free with just eggs and banana. And voila!
This healthy start was then totally counteracted with cake-a-plenty at a friend's baby-shower.
I then followed all the talk of babies and children with plenty of wine and suitcases at Forres.  You know, just to keep a good balance.

Sunday was one of those idyllic days where we managed to be both relaxed and productive.
We did a little mid-year clear out and clean up, and then enjoyed a nice 2 hour walk along the prom, then down past Clifton and on to Camp's Bay where we stopped in at Sinful Ice Cream Emporium.
We ended off the weekend with a family dinner with my brother, my folks and grandparents. And family dinners at home wouldn't be complete without the presence of the dogs at the table.

We also reached the Winter Solstice and had a Super Moon. Which basically means we're on our way back to summer and longer days. The moon, well, its just super.

Have a wonderful week ahead Pretties!

#StyleBloggerStarter - Challenge One

So for our first assignment, Glamour challenged us to become a "street style" photographer for the week and send in between 5 and 8 pictures with a common theme.

I have to say it had me in a spin because I am not the most outgoing person in the world and asking people to stop and pose frightened the bejeezus out of me. I had no idea where to begin.

My first thought was that I could fib and just tell people that I was an intern for The Sartorialist and hope they aren't too disappointed that they didn't get featured in his latest book. But you know, legal issues and such....not such a great plan.

Source: http://clatl.com

Plan B was to invite the bestie over for dinner, feed her lots of wine, promise her endless macarons and then con her into doing a fashion video montage a la The Sweetest Thing. But I have no doubt she'd push me in front of oncoming traffic if I posted that for the world wide web to see. That and, she has more dirt on me than this blog ever needs to see. So we'll nip that idea in the bud.

Finally, after much researching using my favorite style websites, blogs and good old Pinterest, I came up with a plan. I realised that the posts and pictures I enjoyed the most when it came to "street style" were ones of models "off duty". For example, the endless pictures we are seeing of the lovely Aussie shmodel Miranda Kerr making day-to-day style look easy.

So for my street style theme, I have chosen "Models off-duty". Its not focussed on a particular current trend, but rather a gorgeous collection of the gorgeous people rocking the best of Winter 2013. Because who interprets current trends better than the people who get to see it first, right?

I have to say a massive thanks to Donne at Ice Genetics and the wonderful models themselves for letting me rock up at your offices and stalk you all with my camera. And thank you for being just so ridiculously good, good, good looking.
You may also notice a familiar face - and I just have to say a special thank you to the unfairly tall, talented and beautiful, Liezel Van Der Westhuizen for joining in and her amazing support of the blog so far. Much love to you lady!

Now, I'll stop rambling on, and instead let you enjoy the pictures. I am beyond happy with the results. The fabulously trendy outfits, and the array of covetable boots and handbags - all just too gorgeous.
As only the pretty people can do...

This bag. No really, this bag. Gorgeous.

Love a man who isn't afraid of colour. And the boots - love!

Can you even handle that clutch?

The boots. The bodysuit. The studded jacket. I want it all. And her fabulous hair.

Have you ever seen neutrals look so good?

Legs for days. Amazing faux fur gilet, and the perfect "goes with everything" tan boots - from Green Cross
would you believe?

The loveliest lace look I have ever seen, and the grey suede booties and that aqua bag are on my covet list!

The Weekend in Instagram

Long weekends are the best. Not much beats a weekend with an extra day to sleep in, and using the extra time to relax, explore or indulge.
While we had a fairly busy weekend, it was also the most relaxed we've had in a while. We even moved the spare room bed into the lounge and set up a Christmas bed and finished off season 2 and 3 of Game of Thrones over the course of the weekend. It was beyond lazy but we felt like we needed some time out to veg and have a marathon TV session.

In between episodes, we still managed to have a long weekend filled with fun and family. We attended our first Shabbat dinner with friends on Friday evening and left feeling so jealous of the sense of community and the amazing family ties. It was truly a wonderful experience.

Saturday was very exciting as the beef and I went to go and collect his new car. He's been deliberating on a new car for some time and when he put forward the BMW Z4 option I was hesitant at first. We'd never considered a sportscar. Well, one test drive later and we were sold. We only have a few more selfish years left, so why the hell not? So Saturday we picked up the new toy and spent the late morning enjoying the winter sunshine withe the top down.

Sunday was a bumper Father's Day where we spent the morning with my parents and grandparents at Fairview, and then at my new discovery, Spice Route. Its next door to Fairview and it is heaven on earth with the most beautiful views, and so many things to taste and try with wine tasting, craft beer tasting, coffee tasting and artisan chocolate tasting - each housed in their own gorgeous buildings lined up next to each other. There is also a gourmet pizzeria, as well as another restaurant/deli. I will be going back soon to try absolutely everything!
We then went to lunch with the beef's parents for Father's Day Part 2 at the Devon Valley Hotel, along with some family friends. We ate, drank and ate some more. We had a full day touring and eating our way through the winelands, all while enjoying the fabulous company of our wonderful families.

Our extra day off saw us finish off season 3 of Game of Thrones in our Christmas bed, and we only surfaced and left the house in the afternoon. It was a stunner of a day in Cape Town so we just had to get out of the house and enjoy it. We stopped in at our favorite new sushi spot, Nuri Sushi Factory in Parliament Street - and ate way too much as always. Then we decided we felt like a drive but didn't know where to go. The beef has been meaning to take me on a tour of the UCT campus (where he spent his student years) since we first started dating, so thats where we went. I went to Stellenbosch University, and obviously I am biased and think that my alma mater has the most beautiful buildings and setting in the world - but I was blown away by UCT's upper campus. Its gorgeous and made for an amazing afternoon stroll. They still can't play rugby for shit though. And Stellenbosch has wine. Lots of it.

We couldn't let a sunny day in winter go by without a stop at Wakaberry - mainly to try their new Granadilla Sorbet (which is amazing by the way). Loads of folks had the same idea with Wakaberry and Myog on Kloof being packed to the rafters. Capetonians don't waste a sunny day, thats for sure.
And Cape Town wasn't finished showing off just yet, as when we got home, we got to enjoy another breathtaking sunset.

Its going to be very difficult to get back to reality tomorrow :(

The weekend in Instagram

Friday saw my Hey Gorgeous order arrive - and I couldn't wait to start trying the products out. I have to say so far that the Banish and Repair Serum is amazing. I can already feel a difference.
I also stopped on at my favorite place to buy something sweet. In bulk. Because why wouldn't you want a kilogram of speckled eggs?
We decided to postpone the pre-USA diet to this week and had a last "hurrah" this weekend. We started with Hussar grill for the legendary hog ribs, followed by my favorite dessert, their chocolate vodka.

I got invited to pop in at the Lush Cavendish launch on Saturday. I could get used to the idea of being handed a glass of champagne and having a personal shopper show me around the new store and telling me all about the new products. I want one of those all the time - especially the glass of bubbly!

That afternoon we had a seriously indulgent girls tea with macarons from Cassis, and then 3 slices of pure heaven from The Velvet Cake Co.
You have not had red velvet cake until you have tried theirs. We also tried their red velvet cheesecake, and their "Cocoa Chanel" chocolate cake. My world has shifted. I have experienced heaven. You need to try their cake. Its worth the drive north.
Cake aside, I got to spend an afternoon having much needed venting and laughing with two girls whom I am so grateful to have as friends. Sometimes you really need to vent, sob and have people around you who just get it, and make sure that you know they are rooting for you, and are 100% in your corner no matter what.

My grandparents are staying in Cape Town for 6 weeks and its such a treat. They are from Durban and we don't spend much time with them so its wonderful to finally have some overdue quality time.
Sunday was spent having a nice long brunch date at our place. The weather was gorgeous and I knew they'd love hanging out on our balcony and soaking up the sea air. Brunch turned to lunch, then tea, and then lazing on the couch watching cricket and chatting.

Finally, on Sunday evening, Dave and I had some time to ourselves and got take-out and started watching Game of Thrones. Been meaning to start watching for ages, so now we have a whole season to keep us busy this winter. Cuddles on the couch with my favorite person - perfect end to the weekend.

Have a wonderful week Pretties. I have such wonderful things to share with you this week :)

xx

New In: The Quirky Stylista for Mr Price

Pic from: http://thequirkystylista.blogspot.com/2013/05/the-quirky-stylista-and-mr-price.html

Funeka of the Quirky Stylista blog , known for her amazing style has released a project range for Mr Price. Its about time too. This lady has won plenty of awards for her style - including Glamour's Women of the year Style Icon awards, as well as Marie Claire's Best Street Style award.

Can you say that you dress so well that you've won awards for it? No, sadly you can't. So let Funeka dress you instead. Get on down to Mr P and snap up a few of these pieces. Or you can avoid the queues and shop online like I did. If you haven't discovered the joy of www.mrp.co.za yet, now is the time. Clickety-click.

I look forward to seeing more blogger collaborations in future. Some of these girls have serious talent when it comes to styling and design and its something I am thrilled to support.

These are the two items I've ordered: The "Chic Happens" active top, and the "Stylista" slogan tee.
As ever, Mr P gives us style for less - I mean really, at R49,99 for the tee and R99,99 for the sweater, can you really afford to miss out?
